Picacho Creek Nationals was a true national caliber hare scramble hosted by the Salinas Ramblers and in true Clear Creek fashion it was a TOUGH, dry, dusty, silty, rocky, technical course with a not so fun Endurocross course at the end!!. Our Polka Dots were out in force again camping through the cool freezing temps of the night and racing in the high 60’s of the days. Prime racing weather. I can tell you we probably sucked in enough ABESTOS to kill us in about 70 years, so mark this date we’ll have to see how that effects us, and while were waiting hopefully they can get Clear Creek opened back up!
First up on Saturday we had our youth riders again and for the second week in a row JT Baker took the 1st OA and 1st AA and leads the AMA National Supermini’s Series. On his first pit stop he stopped just to tell his pit crew how much he LOVED the course! Mason Parker had a great ride and brought home the #1 piece of Iron in the B85 class and now sits 3rd in the AMA National series points and his brother Max Parker took 6th in the Supermini’s and is 2nd in points in the AMA National Supermini’s. Our Campbell racing team had a hard weekend and Calum blew up his ktm after only 1 lap and had a 13th. Our pit professional and historian Brock Campbell really had a rough weekend because his baby Lochlan also blew up his ktm, so two blown bikes and a race coming up this weekend! If anybody wants to donate to Campbell Racing now would be a good time. Brandon Stoffel was also a casualty of a rough course and from the reports tried one of those 20 yard super man flying moves except without his bike, which ended his race a little early, You’ll get em next time kiddo, glad your ok!
Our Sunday racers started early at 8:15 with the C sportsman, vets and seniors. After waking up bright and early to a brisk 20 something degrees and complaining about my propane going out in my trailer in the middle of the night, I then caught a glimpse of a “Worthcycle” or better known as Chris Worth sleeping in the back of the truck so I stopped complaining!! Oh yeah and my fellow members if you haven’t raced in a while and need all your cards and transponders give yourself a couple hours, isn’t that right Mr. Roe, aka “soup sandwich”. Anyway back to the racing…1st race had our C seniors all on the same line, and from here on out we’ll call this the money line, because I hear there is a big money bet for the end of the year standings on this line. This C Senior race belonged to Kevin Roe 11th 89 O/A racing a new to him yz 250, Ray Kirchner 13th 99 O/A, and Chris Worth 14th103 O/A ,Chris was probably still freezing! Also racing in this race was our C 200’s and Max Parker took 13th and 38th O/A and maintains the lead in the National series, I think he lapped the seniors. His brother Mason Parker took 20th and 109 O/A.
I was next in the A Vet class and got a descent start and was holding down 3rd and the endurocross section on the 1st lap did me in for 1 whole lap before I recovered, I’m just not a fan of endurocross sections, the course was tough enough with out that and I’m not in shape enough to pick up my bike 20 times so I opted the long way around the rest of the laps, on the last lap I got knocked out by Mike Tyson or maybe it was the tree that was across the creek but either way I was seeing stars and couldn’t hardly walk back to my bike. I ended up in 6th 50thO/A and one hell of a sore neck and shoulders today, but the best part, my bike finished a race and nothing even fell off!!!
The last race JT Baker brought home a 4th and 8thO/Ain the B-250 and that was with a chain that came off in the endurocross section! He leads the National Series in points. Calum Campbell took a 4th and 39 O/A in the B-200 and also leads the National series! Mark Tustin rounded out the last race with a 9th in B super senior and 64th O/A.
Notables: Over the Mountain Curt Crandall raced a MRANN race and ended up with a flat but CJ really did well! Great job to all the Dots that showed up this was defiantly a survival race, thanks to all my friends and family and we’ll see you next week at E-Street for double X points. This is your Rhodes Captain over and out!!
