The 2013 race season is finally in full swing and from the 2nd Round of the D36 Hare Scramble series hosted by CCP at Oasis, our Polka Dots were out there in force. Allegedly they had some rain on Thursday but it sure didn’t show, conditions were dry but the ground showed some moisture in the shady areas and the temperatures were perfect both days, it was prime racing weather.
First up on Saturday we had our youth members racing all in the same A&B race #5 and let me tell you these kids were flying! The Course was just a little over 5 miles and had some pretty good technical sections including a long run down a nice wet creek bed. JT Baker brought home 1st OA, 1st in the AA, followed by Max Parker 3rd OA, 2nd A85, Calum Campbell 6th OA, 2nd AA, Mason Parker 14th OA, 8th B85, and finally Brandon Stoffel 16th OA , 10th B85.
The last race of the day Saturday we had Ray Kirshner (52x) and Dean Blank (45x) racing in the C Senior and C Super Senior. I didn’t really get a good race report out of either of them, they were probably to tired so I’ll just make stuff up. So Ray has been eating to many cannoli’s and thought that one of “his people” would come take out his competition, this obviously didn’t happen and ended up in 19th C senior and 63 O/A, Dean Blank 11th C Spr Senior 80 O/A.
Sunday morning I was first up in the A senior class and I’ll just summarize it quickly, I need a new bike that will go more than 1 lap, oh yeah and some fitness and Rob and Rick need to stop force feeding me alcohol at night. Other than that I really liked the course 16th 66 OA!
2nd Race was our B racers and this was a great one to watch, we had JT, Ty, Calum and Bob Austin in this one. JT Baker hit another gear that I don’t think I’ve seen from him before, after working his way up from a not so stellar start he took an impressive 2nd O/A 2nd B250 he was leading the last lap and had the OA wrapped up, and something about a tree and family jewels came out of his mouth at the end so he settled for 2nd O/A , His brother Ty Baker on the eve of his 16th birthday grabbed the HOLE SHOT and lead the whole race, smooth as ever and he looked like he was trail riding for 1st B OPEN 6 O/A, Bob Austin HOLE SHOTTTT and ended up 3rd B-Senior 35th O/A, the only question I didn’t get answered is if JT was nice to him when he lapped him? Calum Cambell after fighting the flu all week and not being his normal self ended up 13th B-250 55th OA.
Last but not least Max Parker rode the wheels off his KTM in the stacked C-200 class for an impressive 5th and 8th O/A.What a great race weekend it was for the DOTS, thanks to all the Pit crews, (Bakers,Parkers, Campbells, etc).
I look forward to Picacho Creek next weekend for the 2nd round of the AMA Nationals and 3rd round of D36!!
Until next time this is your Rhodes Captain over and out!!!!!!!!
